Rog Souza

Rog is the pure juice of tropicality: with no single style to box him in, he moves freely between different languages of filmmaking. According to himself, he chose “big” as his style. Nothing in the tropics is shy, nothing comes in small scale. He knows that. His films also carry another tropical quality: a practical, elegant, and unique vision — with that special touch of life appeal. In other words, a bit of life as it is, and a bit of how we dream it could be.

With over 15 years behind the camera, he’s now one of the most sought-after directors in Brazilian filmmaking. It all started back when he was a journalism student, flirting with the film crowd in mid-2010s New York. From camera operator to the Film School of Cuba and national awards, he’s directed and collaborated with brands like Apple, Budweiser, Toyota, Heineken, Natura, and XP. But this tropical talent doesn’t live on advertising alone — he’s also on Netflix, as director of the series Bom Dia, Verônica, one of the platform’s top-ten most-watched worldwide.

Rog is short for Rogério — which he considers way too serious for this side of the tropics.
